It is important to understand that the EMC Directive contains no legal requirements for performing any EMC laboratory tests. As I will show, there are two routes to declaring EMC compliance (sometimes called conformity to the EMCD), and it is the manufacturer’s choice whether his DoC relies entirely on all relevant harmonized standards (the Standards Route), or uses just a few or none of the relevant harmonized standards (the EMC Assessment Route).
